Camp Blue Skies Foundation
The mission of Camp Blue Skies Foundation is to offer camps to adults with developmental disabilities, enhancing their lives through recreation, socialization and life skills education. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Camp Blue Skies Foundation is fortunate to have an experienced board of directors with a wide range of professional backgrounds and fundraising abilities.
John Alexander – Founder of Mallard Creek Capital Partners, Charlotte, N.C.; Director, Equity Residential (NYSX: EQR); currently serves on the boards of the University of North Carolina Medical Foundation, Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, Warren Wilson College, and First Presbyterian Church.
Rob Aulebach – Retired Bank of America executive. His son, Mark, attends camp.
Jon Beall – Commercial Real Estate Broker at RED Partners. Jon is a long-time volunteer and supporter. He is co-chair of our Ambassadors group in Charlotte.
Bob Bowler – Special Olympics community volunteer. Founder, Camp S.O.A.R. (Special Olympics Athletic Retreat); past Board Member of The ARC of Mecklenburg; past State Board Member of Special Olympics; Chairman of the Board, First and Families. Camp S.O.A.R. is a mini-retreat program that encourages self-expression and promotes self-confidence for adults with developmental disabilities.
Tom Cox – President & CEO of Cox & Company; former chair of Board of County Commissioners; former member of Charlotte City Council, and former chair of Mint Museum of Art.
Lori Gougeon – President and CEO of InReach, an organization dedicated to providing high quality housing, employment, and community support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Charlotte and surrounding counties; board member, Hinds Feet Farm and Metrolina Provider Network.
Andy Kane – Land Stewardship Associate, Catawba Lands Conservancy; formerly Executive Director YMCA Camp Thunderbird; Board Chairman, Anne Springs Close Greenway.
Phil Norwood – Chair of Pacolet Milliken Enterprises, Inc., Director of Mid America Apartment Communities (NYSE: MAA), retired President and CEO, Faison Enterprises, Inc., Rector (Chair) Emeritus, Board of Trustees, Washington and Lee University, former Chair, Opera Carolina, former board member, Greater Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
Richard Sesler – Founder, Camp Blue Skies Foundation, formerly principal, Guggenheim Real Estate, President Emeritus Horizons School, Birmingham, AL; Past board chair of InReach, Charlotte.
Christy Wade – Director of Financial Services, People & Organization at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She and her husband, Collin, are long-time volunteers and supporters. She is co-chair of our Ambassadors group in Charlotte.
John Williams – President and Chief Executive Officer of Domtar, a leading manufacturer of paper and personal care products.
Camp Blue Skies is fortunate to have a team of qualified staff and volunteers who work year round to make every session a great success.
Rebecca Hilinski, Assistant Camp Director. Rebecca comes to us with nonprofit management and Camp/Foundation Board experience. She is responsible for managing the foundation’s database of donors, campers and volunteers in addition to online communications, donor relations, camp policies and procedures, and the camper enrollment process.
Liz Rumbaugh, Program Director. Liz’s experience includes being a Wilderness Therapy Guide. She currently conducts Applied Behavioral Analysis sessions and social skills classes with clients with Autism. Liz is responsible for developing and implementing all programming at Camp Blue Skies, including coordinating with host camp staff and developing the curriculum for Life Skills activities.
Alison Barry, Volunteer Director. Her past work experience with developmentally disabled adults includes being a Job Coach at Goodwill Industries and serving as the Institutional Liaison for Mecklenburg County. She is responsible for recruiting and training Camp Blue Skies volunteers that support our campers throughout the session.
Kit Sluder, Director of Health Services. Kit’s working background is in critical care and disaster relief and she has years of nonprofit and camp nurse experience as well. She is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all Health Center practices including recruiting and training the medical staff for each camp.
Amy Millikan, Development Director. Amy comes with years of experience fundraising for nonprofit organizations in the Charlotte area. Amy is responsible for writing grants, planning fundraising events, and managing donor relations.
Crystal Dempsey, Communications Director. Crystal is a former journalist who owns a PR/marketing company. She is responsible for external communications including public relations, marketing materials, website, social media and email marketing.
