Camp Blue Skies 1st Fishing Tournament a Huge Success!
What do 8 boats, 16 fishermen, 8 experienced guides and 6 volunteers equal?
250 fish caught and over $16,000 for Camp Blue Skies!!!
Not bad for Camp Blue Skies’ first annual "Hooked on Camp" Fishing Tournament on Lake Broyhill at YMCA Camp Harrison on September 13-14.
The two day event kicked off Thursday evening as participants arrived at Camp Harrison for dinner. Participants were early to rise Friday morning for breakfast and an overview of Camp Blue Skies from camp founder, Dick Sesler. Gene Vaughn (a Camp Blue Skies volunteer since 2010) then reviewed boat safety and fishing tournament rules, before an 8am start.
Guides were responsible for making sure nothing “fishy” happened by helping pull in fish and keeping count of the fish caught.
After a great lunch prepared by the Camp Harrison kitchen, the tournament concluded with presentation of awards by Dick and Gene. Gene announced that over 250 fish were caught in 4 hours, an astounding number.
Big winners: Craig Allison brought in the largest bass weighing over 2.4 lbs.
Cathy Phillips, a fisherwoman from the only female team pulled in the largest bluegill brim.
Thanks from our Blue Skies Family to all participants, supporters, fishermen, guides, volunteers and Amy Millikan (our Development Director) for this amazing event. Be sure to contact Amy (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you'd like to be notified about next year's tournament dates. Boats will fill up fast!
